ARTIFACT

ARTIFACT (Artificial Intelligence for Artistic Futures and Creative Talents) is a Creative Europe cooperation project aimed at placing visual artists at the centre of the debate on artificial intelligence, giving voice to the perspective they provide in the interpretation of the rapidly changing technological and societal landscape, and providing targeted tools and skills that can be adopted in their artistic production. The project responds to the growing impact of AI on the cultural and creative sectors and promotes a human-centred and trustworthy approach to artificial intelligence, where artists are active contributors to shaping digital, cultural, and societal future developments.

ARTIFACT brings together cultural organisations, research centres, and artists from different European countries in order to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration between art, research and digital technologies. The project’s main activities include collaborative learning labs, guidelines connecting main findings of desk research and the results from workshops, the development of a targeted AI capacity-building programmes for EU artists, the production and showcase of five pilot artistic projects, the activation of an ARTIFACT network and the development of a position paper on recommendations and reflections on AI and cultural policy from the perspective of European artists.

X-OP participates in the project as a partner organisation involved in the development of international artistic collaborations, residency activities, experimental artistic productions, and public showcase programmes exploring the intersections between contemporary art, science, digital culture, and artificial intelligence.
