Music cycle TOMORROW:

Jazz Oud Quartet

07. 12. 2023

You are cordially invited to join us on Thursday, 7 December 2023, at 8.30 p.m. at MMC KIBLA for a concert by the Jazz Oud Quartet with guest Žiga Kroflič as part of this year's Music cycle TOMORROW. They will present their recently released album Musical Crossroads.

The Jazz Oud Quartet consists of accomplished musicians and multi-instrumentalists who, both solo and in various ensembles, are active in several musical genres, ranging from jazz to classical, from Early music to World music: Lado Jakša (saxophone, clarinet, piano, el. Boris Šinigoj (Arabic lute/oud) and string soloists Tomaž Šinigoj (violin) and Miha Šinigoj (cello, double bass). So far, they have successfully performed on the Ljubljana alternative jazz scene: at Metelkova in Celica, Saxpub, Klub Daktari, Veselov Garden of ZDSLU, during the Live Literature Festival in front of ŠKUC, in front of the Kovid's corpse at CSKFP and, at the invitation of the organiser, also with solo Jazz Oud at the International Summer Festival of the famous Library of Alexandria in Egypt.

The Jazz Oud Quartet creates and plays original improvised music in a dialogue between the oriental tradition and European jazz. The programme "Musical Crossroads" is designed as a fascinating and unpredictable dialogue between European jazz and oriental music. It features temperamental and original improvisations on the modal "scales" of the oriental musical tradition, such as the Arabic maqam, the Indian raga, the Turkish makam, the Iranian dastgah, the Greek rebetiko and Sephardic intoned chants. The sounds of Western European instruments such as saxophone, clarinet, violin, cello, double bass, classical piano and electric keyboards are interwoven with the archaic sound of the Syrian Arabic lute, made in Damascus in the early 20th century by the Armenian luthier Mihran Mississian.
