The Abduction of Europa
05. 05. — 03. 06. 2023
We are pleased to invite you to the opening of Marijan Mirt’s retrospective exhibition entitled The Abduction of Europa, which will take place on Friday, 5 May 2023, at 7 p.m. in KiBela, space for art.
About the exhibition
The visual language of this year's recipient of the Glazer Award of the City of Maribor is unique and recognizable, it looks at the present with traditional methods, cites ancient art, combines traditional techniques and materials of visual art with contemporary ones, reflects reality in the face of social and existential circumstances, thematizes and often brings irony to current events, thus announcing the future of mankind, which of course depends on its own actions. Mirt artistically encodes the state of the world, especially that of humans, highlighting the anthropological and psychological dimensions, often bringing them together in images of animals, hybrids, perhaps clones as it corresponds to his perceptions and insights.
Marijan Mirt was born in 1975 in Zagreb. He graduated from the High School of Applied Art and Design in Zagreb, majoring in sculpture. In 1999, he obtained his master's degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, with professors Miro Vuc and Robert Emil Tanay. In 2000, he moved to Maribor. He is the author of several public sculptures at home and abroad. He has prepared more than twenty solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions. He is a member of DLUM, ZDSLU and ULUPUH.
