Haludovo – You Only Live Twice

Abstract for a feature-lenght docu-fiction by mediainmotion.de

In 1969 Jozip Broz a.k.a.Tito and Bob Guccione, owner of the Penthouse Magazine, met on Titos private archipelago “Brioni”. They drove around these sub-tropical islands with the pink cadillac convertible, which Tito got as a a present by J.F. Kennedy. Between the exotic aninals like giraffees, lions, elephants, gazellas and others they spent a great time. Later in the evening, after some bottles of excellent rakija, they spoke about common future plans. Guccione admired the splendid atmosphere and the beauty of the yugoslav mediterrenean coast. There was only missing a casino, So they came to the idea to build the first one in the communistic world. They both agreed on a never written contract. It stated, that Tito will build a bridge to the island of Krk and an international airport, while Guccione´s part was the erection of a casino-hotel plus the delivery of enough female pets. What first looked like a weird fantasy became later reality in the complex of “Haludovo” with it´s central 5-stars luxury “Hotel Palace” in a Ken Adam like set-up design for a “James Bond” film. They both finished the day with a last bottle of rakija and woke up the next morning with a hang-over.

The Shadow

by Sibylle Hoessler, Berlin 2011

In September/October 2010 I was invited by mediainmotion for a stipend at MediaScape in Zagreb.

Day by day I was strawling around the foreign city.
After three days I realized that my way was daily crossed by a guy with a red suitcase.
So I decided to follow him. After a while I realized that all his places to go were somehow related to Art.

I followed him to the Ministry of culture, the Museum of Contemporary Art, to the HDLU, a round artbuilding in Zagrebs old city and different little galeries in the heart of the city. I became his shadow for two weeks. Without knowing he showed me around the city. We never talked to each other.

I left Zagreb without knowing anything about this person.
It remained a secret what he carried in his red suitcase.

Ingeborg Fülepp & Heiko Daxl – Residency at Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka

HALUDOVO´S DOUBLE CHARACTER AND RIJECKI DVEVNIK / RIJEKA DIARY – TRACES OF TOSO DABACC PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE KVARNER GULF

Haludovo- a symbol for failed (unsuccessful) foreign investment in Croatia. Built in the style of seventies architecture, first awarded as one of the most attractive touristic resort with casino for rich people from the capitalistic west, than after that failed disdain for many years as an awful concrete block, to become today with its devastated state a fascinating document of failed communistic ideas to open yugoslavia to the west and capitalism.

Call for X-OP residency at Rahmenwerk, Vienna

The research project Transforming Freedom invites an artist, writer or curator for a residency stay in Vienna in October 2010.

Our range of research in Digital Arts & Cultures can be visited at transformingfreedom.org.

Some of our current research in artistic practises is revolving around the question of how the historic, transcontinental and intermedial strategies of the Fluxus tradition are substituted, newly empowered or modified by techniques of online collaboration. In this context, research into the strategies of young media artists in a globalized and increasingly technically colonized online media environment are also projected.
