While the city or the urban area is regarded as the area of development, fast progress, and in addition the absent-minded, superficial and disconcentrated perception, the area of the “landscape” is in contrast the place of peace, collection and leisure. In the countryside outside the city the perception of space and time win other values. The landscape encourages for curving: the view, the hearing, the smell and the thoughts win perspective, which the area of the landscape opens. This leads also to a slowing down and a sensory perception, to a concentration, which is another as those of the city. The area outside of the city or outside of the life sphere of humans generally is not characterized by civilization, but by natural conditions: Apparently ordinary: the brook, the tree, the meadow appear in new light, the murmuring water, the noise of the wind kidnap urban humans into another reality. In the countryside there is still a horizon. Here prevails a liberty of view over the restricted city view. The city has structure, pictogram forests, a silhouette perhaps, but no horizon. In the landscape however the horizon is always there and lures into the distance. The horizon is everywhere, has 360° and more. Novigrad is a town, but circled by an immense countryside and great perspectives of the Adriatic Sea.The connection of this reality with the possibilities of current art work, the bridging between nature and civilization and between technology and art is the starting point of Media-Scape 2008.

Supported by: Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Region of Istria-office for education, culture and sport City of Novigrad
Media Scape Novigrad is part of the collaborative project X-OP: eXchange of art Operators and Producers. Project is partly funded by the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, Culture Programme

Haludovo – You Only Live Twice

Abstract for a feature-lenght docu-fiction by mediainmotion.de

In 1969 Jozip Broz a.k.a.Tito and Bob Guccione, owner of the Penthouse Magazine, met on Titos private archipelago “Brioni”. They drove around these sub-tropical islands with the pink cadillac convertible, which Tito got as a a present by J.F. Kennedy. Between the exotic aninals like giraffees, lions, elephants, gazellas and others they spent a great time. Later in the evening, after some bottles of excellent rakija, they spoke about common future plans. Guccione admired the splendid atmosphere and the beauty of the yugoslav mediterrenean coast. There was only missing a casino, So they came to the idea to build the first one in the communistic world. They both agreed on a never written contract. It stated, that Tito will build a bridge to the island of Krk and an international airport, while Guccione´s part was the erection of a casino-hotel plus the delivery of enough female pets. What first looked like a weird fantasy became later reality in the complex of “Haludovo” with it´s central 5-stars luxury “Hotel Palace” in a Ken Adam like set-up design for a “James Bond” film. They both finished the day with a last bottle of rakija and woke up the next morning with a hang-over.

MIM´S GARDEN

“Guerrilla gardening is gardening on another person’s land without permission. It encompasses a very diverse range of people and motivations, from the enthusiastic gardener who spills over their legal boundaries to the highly political gardener who seeks to provoke change through direct action. It has implications for land rights, land reform. The land that is guerrilla gardened is usually abandoned or neglected by its legal owner and the guerrilla gardeners take it over (“squat”) to grow plants. Guerrilla gardeners believe in re-considering land ownership in order to reclaim land from perceived neglect or misuse and assign a new purpose to it.
Some guerrilla gardeners carry out their actions at night, in relative secrecy, to sow and tend a new vegetable patch or flower garden. Some garden at more visible hours to be seen by their community. It has grown into a form of proactive activism or pro-activism.” (from Wikipedia)

The Shadow

by Sibylle Hoessler, Berlin 2011

In September/October 2010 I was invited by mediainmotion for a stipend at MediaScape in Zagreb.

Day by day I was strawling around the foreign city.
After three days I realized that my way was daily crossed by a guy with a red suitcase.
So I decided to follow him. After a while I realized that all his places to go were somehow related to Art.

I followed him to the Ministry of culture, the Museum of Contemporary Art, to the HDLU, a round artbuilding in Zagrebs old city and different little galeries in the heart of the city. I became his shadow for two weeks. Without knowing he showed me around the city. We never talked to each other.

I left Zagreb without knowing anything about this person.
It remained a secret what he carried in his red suitcase.

Benoit Maubrey: Die Audio Gruppe

Date: 17/06/2011

Location: Gallery KiBela, Maribor – Slovenia

Organisers / Producers:  ACE KIBLA

Benoît Maubrey is the director of DIE AUDIO GRUPPE, Berlin-based art group that build and perform with electronic clothes. Basically these are electro-acoustic clothes and dresses (equipped with amplifiers and loudspeakers) that make sounds by interacting thematically and acoustically with their environment. The AUDIO BALLERINAS use – among other electronic instruments – light sensors that enable them to produce sounds through the interaction of their movements and the surrounding light (PEEPER choreography). Via movement sensors they can also trigger electronic sounds that are subsequently choreographed – or “orchestrated”– into musical compositions as an “audio ballet” (YAMAHA choreography). A variety of other electronic instruments (mini-computers, samplers, contact microphones, cassette and MP3 players, and radio receivers) allow them to work with the sounds, surfaces, and topographies of the space around them in a variety of solo or group choreographies.

Music series Femina

Date: 29/12/2010

Location: Gallery KiBela, Maribor – Slovenia

Organisers / Producers:  ACE KIBLA

Femina, the long-awaited music series happened on Wednesday 29 December at 6 pm. Our guests of the afternoon and the evening presented their sound situations, lyrics, performances and concerts.

The project »Ženske_vol.10« (Women_nr 10) focuses on domestic and partly also on foreign currents of female creativity based on sound and music. By means of diverse performances and a CD release we will explore the position of the 21st century woman creating with sound and music. Or maybe we won’t.

The designed sound CD »Ženske_vol.10« continues the son:DA edition within KIBLA’s TOX imprint, its other releases being »ulica_2012« and »avantgard_08_09«. »ulica_2012« was questioning the concepts and contexts of street culture and music through spoken word of diverse Slovenian dialects looking towards the European Capital of Culture 2012. »avantgarda_08_09« was focusing on the experimental, electro acoustic sea of sound and its being shaped, modulated, processed and projected into space.

Festival Kiblix 2010: Waste- Technology Minus / Biomodd

Date: 18/11/2010 until 28/11/2010

Location: Gallery KiBela, Maribor – Slovenia

Organisers / Producers:  ACE KIBLA

Kibla has gradually transformed one of its oldest festivals from a purely technological festival into a festival of arts and education domain. Transforming Kiblix festival will continue and we intend to establish it into one of the most relevant arts festivals in following years, based on open source solutions, and place it on the European and global map. Open Source for the visitors, campaigns, performances and installations, interactive events, robots, software art, art hardware, wireless systems, security and control are just some of the backgrounds of art, which raises the issues of human freedom, freedom of speech and expression, free flow of information and knowledge, free exchange of data and is searching for answers instead of all those who are closing their systems and are locking themselves in digital fortress, under the disguise of copyright protection – and in such different environments and ways – limiting all mentioned above, in most of most cases, banal reasons to earn more profit, but often from sheer desire to control and manipulate society by the masses.

Group Bouillon, performance

Group Bouillon was founded on 2008. There are six members in the group: Koka kitiashvili,Temo Kartlelishvili, Zura Kikvadze, Natuka Vacadze, Katia Kecbaia, Lado KharTishvili. Together the group produces performances, actions and artistic interventions in public space, as well as focusing on activities on investigation of the space and adaptation of artwork to non-artistic space. They made series of apartment exhibitions using private space for performance, happenings and installations. In these series of soviet apartment exhibitions where private space played role of the gallery for presenting artworks refused by the political regime, Bouillon group’s use of private space underlines the artistic importance of non-artistic space itself. First they search for space that becomes motivation for their artworks. Therefore the space is a like construction for artwork.Ideas in the group of artists are generated together and then the work gets its final form.
