MediaScape 2008

Poster

While the city or the urban area is regarded as the area of development, fast progress, and in addition the absent-minded, superficial and disconcentrated perception, the area of the “landscape” is in contrast the place of peace, collection and leisure. In the countryside outside the city the perception of space and time win other values. The landscape encourages for curving: the view, the hearing, the smell and the thoughts win perspective, which the area of the landscape opens. This leads also to a slowing down and a sensory perception, to a concentration, which is another as those of the city. The area outside of the city or outside of the life sphere of humans generally is not characterized by civilization, but by natural conditions: Apparently ordinary: the brook, the tree, the meadow appear in new light, the murmuring water, the noise of the wind kidnap urban humans into another reality. In the countryside there is still a horizon. Here prevails a liberty of view over the restricted city view. The city has structure, pictogram forests, a silhouette perhaps, but no horizon. In the landscape however the horizon is always there and lures into the distance. The horizon is everywhere, has 360° and more. Novigrad is a town, but circled by an immense countryside and great perspectives of the Adriatic Sea.The connection of this reality with the possibilities of current art work, the bridging between nature and civilization and between technology and art is the starting point of Media-Scape 2008.

Supported by: Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Region of Istria-office for education, culture and sport City of Novigrad
Media Scape Novigrad is part of the collaborative project X-OP: eXchange of art Operators and Producers. Project is partly funded by the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, Culture Programme

Festival of microtonal music 2011

5 September: Nora-Louise Müller, Germany
12 September: Bernhard Mikuskovics,
Austria
15 September: Jens Mügge, Germany
14 October: Rdeča Raketa, Austria

5 September
Nora-Louise Müller (Germany)
has collaborated with numerous well-known composers in her intense occupation with contemporary music, including performing in the Composer in Residence program at the contemporary music festival chiffren – Kieler Tage für Neue Musik.
In 2007, she began working with an extraordinary instrument: the Bohlen-Pierce clarinet which uses a (very!) different harmonic tone system. As one of only five clarinetists worldwide who perform on this particular instrument she was invited to enrich the first Bohlen-Pierce conference in Boston, Massachussetts in 2010 with her performances, and will be playing this radical instrument in festival DaNes.

12 September
Bernhard Mikuskovics (
Austria)
“Just as the manifold beauty of light reveals itself in the spectral colours of a rainbow, we experience the manifold beauty of a single tone in the sound colours of its overtones.”
Overtone singer and multiinstrumentalist Bernhard Mikuskovics started to research on ethnic instruments after graduating from a school for graphic design & printing processes and has been working since then extensively on various eclectic art projects surrounding music, painting and literature.

15 September
Jens Mügge, Germany

Jens Mügge sang as a child in various choirs. He started to play traditional folk songs and melodies on the jaw harp. At that early period he did not know that jew’s harp playing is a kind of overtone music. Additionally he began to learn didgeridoo and was introduced to overtone singing 2001, developed his style of overtone singing on his own, and increased his knowledge of polyphonic harmonic singing by Wolfgang Saus in 2004. Now he accompanies his overtone singing with guitar, Jew’s harp, tambura, sansula, kalimba, springdrum, shrutibox, singing bowls and indian harmonium.

MED – Maribor Electronic Destination 2011

Date: 25/02/2011 until 26/02/2011

Location: Gallery KiBela, Maribor – Slovenia

Organisers / Producers:  ACE KIBLA

This year’s edition of MED festival is again being established as a platform to enable crossing the divisions between the acoustic and electronic music expression on the one hand, and the exploring and playful aspect of making music on the other. As the form of a festival is considered one of the best options to make new cultural contents directly available and raise interest in them, it is also very contributing to the situation in the local environment. This is because we have been working towards merging alternative approaches to music, and at the same time trying to increase the visibility of establishing a comprehensive scene of such creativity on a local basis.

Festival Kiblix 2010: Waste- Technology Minus / Biomodd

Date: 18/11/2010 until 28/11/2010

Location: Gallery KiBela, Maribor – Slovenia

Organisers / Producers:  ACE KIBLA

Kibla has gradually transformed one of its oldest festivals from a purely technological festival into a festival of arts and education domain. Transforming Kiblix festival will continue and we intend to establish it into one of the most relevant arts festivals in following years, based on open source solutions, and place it on the European and global map. Open Source for the visitors, campaigns, performances and installations, interactive events, robots, software art, art hardware, wireless systems, security and control are just some of the backgrounds of art, which raises the issues of human freedom, freedom of speech and expression, free flow of information and knowledge, free exchange of data and is searching for answers instead of all those who are closing their systems and are locking themselves in digital fortress, under the disguise of copyright protection – and in such different environments and ways – limiting all mentioned above, in most of most cases, banal reasons to earn more profit, but often from sheer desire to control and manipulate society by the masses.

Triple Conjunction | Magic, Myths and Mutations | Pixxelpoint: 11th Int. NewMediaArt Festival Nova Gorica | December 3rd – 10th 2010

Triple Conjunction: Magic, Myths and Mutations

A triple conjunction is an astronomical event, where two planets or a planet and a star meet each other three times in a short period either in opposition or at the time of inferior conjunction, if an inferior planet is involved. The visible movement of the planet or the planets in the sky is therefore normally prograde at the first conjunction, retrograde at the second conjunction and again prograde at the third conjunction.” (Wikipedia)
