The research project Transforming Freedom invites an artist, writer or curator for a residency stay in Vienna in October 2010.
Our range of research in Digital Arts & Cultures can be visited at transformingfreedom.org.
Some of our current research in artistic practises is revolving around the question of how the historic, transcontinental and intermedial strategies of the Fluxus tradition are substituted, newly empowered or modified by techniques of online collaboration. In this context, research into the strategies of young media artists in a globalized and increasingly technically colonized online media environment are also projected.

Our best ideas are often those that bridge between different worlds. (Marvin Minsky)
This concept is as good or as bad as any other. But it follows the maxims of certain validities established in the realm of history. Without getting tedious, let’s start from the very beginning: As Aristotle said, when people wondered about things, they did so for the sake of knowledge, not utility. That is not what curators are dream of; rather, it is the belief that the future is the only goal; it is the confidence that we have been brought together for the sake of something larger than our differences: vita brevis, ars longae. It is the acknowledgement of a wealth that exists only because we are different. Let us play, but not because we want to win; rather, because we want to experience, enjoy, feel, learn and know. This exhibition brings together a plethora of parallel approaches that take different expressive forms. In Berlin a formulation of similar concerns can be seen to pervade all spheres of art, be it music, the visual arts, film, theater or performance.

The project NADAL explores borders of sport, architecture and art, based on a confrontation between several codes from urban sports (Parkour, roof soccer), video game and robotic cultures. This configuration – developed as a site specific installation – occupies the gallery KIBELA in order to enable a physical activation of the exhibition space. The installation functions as a relay system supplied by several tennis ball machines. The work borrows the name of the famous champion through a < game > close to a digital bug : a looping space where Machine interacts strictly with Machine.
